WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE STAND FOR

The Timor-Leste Marine and Fisheries Association (TL-MFA) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding the marine environment and strengthening the livelihoods of coastal communities in Timor-Leste. Registered with the Minister of Justice and granted legal status on April 12, 2024, TL-MFA operates as a vital link between science, policy, and community action.

The Association of Fisheries and Marine of Timor-Leste (APM-TL) is dedicated to promoting education, research, and community engagement for a sustainable use of ocean resources.

Our Vision

To sustain a healthy and thriving marine ecosystem that supports life, provides food, and ensures livelihoods for coastal communities in Timor-Leste.
We envision a future where our ocean continues to deliver vital ecosystem services and remains rich in biodiversity.
APM-TL works to monitor, share knowledge, and advocate for policies and actions that promote sustainable marine development — in partnership with communities, government institutions, and national and international agencies.

How We Work

The TL-MFA works in close partnership with local fishers, traditional authorities, government agencies, and national and international conservation organizations. Through comprehensive research, targeted education, and robust advocacy, we are committed to finding innovative solutions to complex challenges and ensuring that our oceans remain healthy and productive for future generations.

Our Guiding Values

Every action undertaken by TL-MFA is guided by our four core values, ensuring we operate with Integrity and uphold accountability while fostering Collaboration among all stakeholders.
